Want to become a multiplication whiz? This trick will help you easily remember all the answers in the 9-times table!
The Finger Trick
This cool trick uses your fingers to show you the answer to any 9-times table problem from 9 x 1 to 9 x 10. Here's how it works:
- Hold both your hands in front of you, with your fingers spread out.
- To multiply 9 by a number (let's say 3), count that many fingers from the left (1, 2, 3).
- Bend that finger down (the 3rd finger in our example).
- Count the fingers before the bent finger. In our example, there are 2 fingers before the bent finger. This is the "tens" digit (20).
- Count the fingers after the bent finger. In our example, there are 7 fingers after the bent finger. This is the "ones" digit (7).
- Put the tens and ones together: 2 and 7 makes 27! So, 9 x 3 = 27.
Why Does This Work?
This trick works because of how our number system is set up! Each time you increase by one in the 9 times table, the tens digit goes up by one, and the ones digit goes down by one. Your fingers are just a fun way to visualize this pattern!
