Ready for a super fun math adventure? This treasure hunt will test your skills and help you unlock a secret code to open the treasure box!

What You'll Need

  • Paper and a pencil or pen
  • A grown-up to help hide the clues
  • Small pieces of paper to write clues on
  • A "treasure box" (any box will do!)
  • A small "treasure" to put in the box (a toy, candy, or cool rock)

The Treasure Hunt

Your grown-up will hide these clues around the house or yard. Each clue will have a math problem. Solve the problem to find the next clue! The last clue will tell you the code to open the treasure box!

  1. Clue 1: (Hidden in a place like near the front door)

    Problem: What is 12 + 8? Write the answer down.

  2. Clue 2: (Hidden in a place indicated by the answer to Clue 1, e.g., near a TV if the answer was 20, and the clue reads "Look near the TV")

    Problem: What is 5 x 3? Write the answer down.

  3. Clue 3: (Hidden in a place indicated by the answer to Clue 2, e.g., under a chair if the answer was 15, and the clue reads "Look under the chair")

    Problem: What is 30 - 10? Write the answer down.

  4. Clue 4: (Hidden in a place indicated by the answer to Clue 3, e.g., inside a book if the answer was 20, and the clue reads "Look inside the book")

    Problem: What is 8 / 2? Write the answer down.

  5. Clue 5: (Hidden in a place indicated by the answer to Clue 4, e.g., in the fridge if the answer was 4, and the clue reads "Look in the fridge")

    The Code: The code to open the treasure box is: 20-15-20-4. Good luck!

Cracking the Code

Now that you've found all the clues and solved the math problems, you should have a four-number code! Go to the treasure box and try the code. Did it work? Yay! You found the treasure!
